Description
Cape Canaveral first appeared on Spanish maps in 1564, an important reference point for New World explorers. Canaveral Bight was a point were European vessels left the Florida coast and headed northeast out into open Atlantic waters toward home. These coastal shoals along the Canaveral Coast are one of the most dangerous sections of the Atlantic Coast. The ocean bottom is littered with shipwrecks, some laden with Spanish gold. A popular stop for modern treasure hunters, it's also a peaceful area for photographers.
