Description
One of four lighthouse to mark the San Blas Shoals, the present day tower was built more than 130 years ago. The Cape San Blas Lighthouse has been threatened by many Gulf Coast hurricanes over the years, but erosional tides were the biggest trouble thoughtout its stint on the Cape. No longer needed as a navagational aid, a move inland was in order. Now a welcome landmark in Port St. Joe, the lighthouse was moved to George Core Park in 2014. Located on the shoreline of St. Joseph’s Bay, both keeper's cottages, oil house and lighthouse tower are part of a bayside park and are open to the public for tours.
