Description
Topped out at 5,342 feet in elevation, Wayah Bald offers a 360 panoramiic view of the surround Nantahala National Forest, the Great Smoky Mountains to the north in Tennessee and the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia to the south. An old stone fire tower, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1937 lets visitors climb above the treetops to witness the fantastic view. The Bald, especially beautiful in mid October, is reached over a nine mile access road. The road to the top is filled with twists and turns, making this ride part of the fun getting there.
