Artist's Description

Beginning in North Carolina's High Country, the Elk River flows westward toward Tennessee and empties into Watauga Lake. Just before it crosses the border near Banner Elk, the river drops 50 feet creating Elk River Falls. Once known as Big Falls, this popular waterfall site is surrounded by the Pisgah National Forest and governed by the Appalachian/Toecane Ranger District.
