Description
Begginning in North Carolina's High Country, the Elk River flows westward toward Tennesse and empties into Watauga Lake. Just before it crosses the border near Banner Elk, the river drops 50 feet creating Elk River Falls. Once known as Big Falls, this popular waterfall site is surrounded by the Pisgah National Forest and governed by the Appalachian/Toecane Ranger District.
Just above the falls, where river currents begin to pick up speed, smooth water catches autumn's glow from trees on the riverbank. Looking move like an abstract rather than a river scene, this photo is all about the little things that catch one's eye.
