Ceded by the Creek Indians in 1821, Monroe County was settled by hundreds of small-plot Georgia land-owners during the Lottery Act.
Named after President James Monroe, the growing county needed a new courthouse as it neared the end of the century. Built in 1896, the red-brick High Victorian occupies a large central square in Forsyth. The architectural design is one of the most elegant of all the 19th century courthouses in the state. The courthouse was honored with its placement on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
Born in western Pennsylvania, Ben quickly discovered that his parents were passionate about travel, photography, oil painting and wildlife. Being the youngest member of his family, he grew up exploring much of the eastern half of the United States at an early age with his older brothers. Ben's photography is about that part of his youth, echoing that same passion that his parents had of the Great Outdoors. Visit
