Description
Finished in a watercolor style, this scene captures the Old Mission Road Sugar Mill Ruins in New Smyrna. The old mill recalls the days of an undeveloped U.S. Territory, where the Florida coast was only accessible by way of its rivers and Indian paths.
The New Smyrna property was conveyed to the Florida State Park Service in 1929. Today, the Volusia County park offers a picnic area, playground, restrooms and a nature trail. Storyboards help portray the early history of the Cruger-dePeyster Plantation and the processes for growing and making sugar.
