Description
Billed as the second largest canyon in the United States, Palo Duro Canyon was carved out of a Caprock Escarpment in the Texas High Plains by the relentless the Prairie Dog Town Fork of the Red River. Varying in estimates from 70 to 120 miles long, the canyon reaches depths of 800 to 1000 feet. Often referred to as the Texas Grand Canyon, Palo Duro is located about an hour's drive from Amarillo.
Here in the Texas Panhandle, towering cliffs, steep mesa walls, and bands of red, yellow, purple and white sandstone provide the backdrop for exciting park adventures.
