Description
Operated by the Stuart Heritage Inc. as a local museum, the George W. Parks General Merchandise Store was built in 1901. One of the few remaining vernacular style commercial buildings left in south Florida, the Parks store was bought by the city of Stuart in 1988. Housing artifacts from the 1880s to the 1950s, the museum is open daily.
The second story was used as the living quarters by the Parks family and the store was slowly converted to a hardware store during its time serving the Stuart community. Later the store became a feed supply and remained in operation until the city purchased the property.
