Description
The century old Roque Brothers Farm, an 800-acre cattle ranch, is located along the picturesque Cane River in Natchitoches Parish, Louisana. Established in 1916 by Emitte and Cecile Roque, the farm produced cotton, corn, hay, and beef.
The Roque Brothers Store was built around 1925, typical of many twentieth century plantation stores. A full day's journey to the nearest town, the plantation store carried just about everything sharecroppers and ranch hands needed, including groceries, clothes, shoes and medicines. With the onset of mechanized farming and when the need for hand labor dwindled, the plantation store became a thing of the past. LA-484.
