Description
The Sea Grape, a salt-tolerant semi tropical shrub, creates an excellent wind break at the beach, common in central Florida. Left to grow, sea grapes may reach 20 to 25 feet and are covered with thick leathery leaves that grow 8 to 10 inches in diameter, with a hint of red veining. Female shrubs produce clusters of fruit that resemble grapes and ripen to a very sweet treat. Even though the fruit looks like grapes, the plant is in the buckwheat family.
