Description
The Tampa Bay Hotel, built in the late 1800s by transportation pioneer Henry B. Plant, now houses a museum and University of Tampa students. Surrounded by gardens, one of the garden sculptures was create by an artist-in-residence at the university. The seven pillars of the Sticks of Fire, crafted in Rockford, Illinois, represent seven anonymous trustee families who donated a sizable sum to the university. The scuplture hopes to convey the idea of "bringing light of knowledge and warmth of feeling to a people who don't just wish to exist, but to excel."
