Description
What would 100 million dollars buy during a time near the end of the 20th century? Well in this case, deep in the Southern Appalachian Wilderness, the tidy sum was enough to produce a highway that bikers and driving enthusiasts have always dreamed about. Funded with a grant from the National Scenic Byway program, the 43 mile highway is a "shortcut", connecting Tellico Plains in Tennessee with Robbinsville, North Carolina. The Cherohala Skyway, taking its name from the Cherokee and Nantahala national forests, twists, turns and climbs its way through rugged mountain peaks from the west at Tellico Plains. Several pullouts highlight the Tellico River as it cascades through the gorge. This area is a mecca for recreation, with hiking, camping, picnicking, swimming, bicycling, boating, fishing, hunting, and sight-seeing providing plenty of outdoor fun. Recognized as a premier trout stream, the Tellico River in Monroe County, Tennessee, free-flows for almost twenty miles.

What a lovely, peaceful scene! I like that you got down low to get the show - it puts emphasis on the little waterfall and makes it key to the scene. l/f
