Just a few miles from the southern entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, sightseers, photographers and waterfall fans flock to Mingo Falls. Known as Big Bear Falls to the Cherokee, Mingo Falls drops 120 feet down the mountainside in several tiers. During autumn the falls is divided into several thinner ribbons, still creating a beautiful sight. While it's not very far from the parking lot, there are 160 steps to climb as you make your way up to the falls.
During your climb up you may want to stop and catch your breath and enjoy Pigeon Creek as it flows beside the trail. It's moderate hike and is especially beautiful during the autumn season.
Born in western Pennsylvania, Ben quickly discovered that his parents were passionate about travel, photography, oil painting and wildlife. Being the youngest member of his family, he grew up exploring much of the eastern half of the United States at an early age with his older brothers. Ben's photography is about that part of his youth, echoing that same passion that his parents had of the Great Outdoors. Visit
