Artist's Description

The Mammoth Lakes Basin was carved out during the last ice age, and is still surrounded by mountains (Sherwin Range), hilly terrain and more mountains (specif. Mammoth Mountain). Pictured here is a view of the lower lake of Twin Lakes, the first of a group of Mammoth Lakes found about three miles from town (Mammoth Lakes). Beginning at 8500 feet elevation, the Lake Mary Road continues to climb to more lake views. Clearwater Creek, aptly named,
feeds Twin Lakes. A small cascade between the upper and lower Twins offers a great location to soak up the splendid scenery.
