Artist's Description

Located on the eastern summit of West Virginia's Droop Mountain, Beartown State Park houses an unusual collection of rock formations that remind some visitors of a small city. The results of erosion, huge blocks of Droop and Pottsville sandstone have split apart, creating deep vertical fissures. Some of these cracks open more than three feet wide, providing space for inviting footpaths in this enchanting dreamscape. Long walkways between the rocks remind Beartown explorers of city streets, lining both sides with miniature skyscrapers.

About Ben Prepelka

Ben Prepelka

Born in western Pennsylvania, Ben quickly discovered that his parents were passionate about travel, photography, oil painting and wildlife. Being the youngest member of his family, he grew up exploring much of the eastern half of the United States at an early age with his older brothers. Ben's photography is about that part of his youth, echoing that same passion that his parents had of the Great Outdoors. Visit
