Description
Here in the high plains of Montana the sprawling landscape extends as far as the eye can see. The big sky nickname, often accredited to author A.B.Guthrie Jr., may have more to do with the state's immense farmland than the actual sky itself.
The 'Big Sky' name was forever linked to the state in 1960 after Montana kicked off a highway department travel campaign.
Upon closer inspection the stormy looking sky in this scene blends in well with the distant Rocky Mountain Range. Farm buildings and silos dot the countryside and swaths of freshly plowed land create a stark break in the greens of early summer.
