Description
Laid out in the mid 1700s, the wonderfully shaded streets and immaculate homes in Litchfield appear unchanged from yesteryear. Prominent Litchfield citizens included brother and sister, Harriet Beecher Stowe and Henry Ward Beecher. The Litchfield Tapping Reeve House and Law School, founded by Tapping Reeve, survives to this day.
Historic structures and charming shops circle the central Green. Visitors always pause outside the First Congregational Church, as it stark white exterior stand proudly against a blue Connecticut sky. Their first meeting house was built on the Green in 1723. This beautiful Colonial Revival structure dates back to 1828, with its soaring steeple added in 1930.
