Housed in a single-room clapboard building, the old Latta Post Office was also the Bethea General Store. Like so many rural stores, it served a dual purpose, catering to the locals with everything from the outside world. Typically the post master owned the store. Here in Latta, Mr. Bethea was a respected African American merchant, who was officially appointed postmaster in July 1890.
Today, the Post Office and store is furnished much the same way as it would have been during Robert Bethea's time. Items in the store have been contributed by local citizens.
Born in western Pennsylvania, Ben quickly discovered that his parents were passionate about travel, photography, oil painting and wildlife. Being the youngest member of his family, he grew up exploring much of the eastern half of the United States at an early age with his older brothers. Ben's photography is about that part of his youth, echoing that same passion that his parents had of the Great Outdoors. Visit
