Artist's Description

While the Gulf Fritillary prefers to lunch on the inkberry or common passion flower, it seems just as happy dining on this new thistle blossom. Considered a noxious weed on a farm, these hearty thistles grow alongside the trail in the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, attracting a variety of butterflies and bees.
Noted for its bird populations, the refuge is also home for other wildlife and wildflowers.
