Description
One of 20 historic covered bridges in Pennsylvania's Columbia County, the Stillwater Bridge crosses Fishing Creek in the Borough of Stillwater. The county is proud to have the third largest concentration of covered bridges in the state. Located off Paperdale Road, the bridge is closed to motor traffic.
The historic bridge was built in 1849 by James McHenry with a price tag of 1,124 dollars. The bridge uses a multiple Kingpost and Burr arch truss system to span 157 feet over Big Fishing Creek. The lengthy bridge needs no center support pier, quite impressive for a single span wooden bridge. Repainted in 2019, the bridge puts on a great show for the annual covered bridge tour.
