Description
Benjamin Franklin Parkway, the mile long Roadway of Flags, diagonally slices through center-city, Philadelphia. The majority of the other city streets were laid out in a square grid. The parkway, running from city hall and ending at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, is the center of city culture. The avenue was designed in the early 1900s by Frenchman Jacques Greber, and today, the boulevard displays flags from every country of the world. In this scene, the iconic City Hall is in the distance, topped with a 37 foot, 27-ton bronze statue of William Penn. City Hall, a National Historic Landmark, was designed in the Second-Empire Mode of French Renaissance Revival architectural style by architect John McArthur, Jr. and Thomas Ustick Walter.
