Description
Tipping the scales at 40 tons, the reclining Buddha in Nirvana also possesses a great spiritual significance in Buddhist teachings. One of three colossal sculptures at White Sands Buddhist Center in Mims, Florida, the sculpture depicts the Buddha at the time of his death. The statue was carved in Vietnam out of a single block of granite. Stretching out for 35 feet, the sculpture rests beside a meditation pond, surrounded by a paved walkway, a series of benches and flowering plants.
The center is open to the public, and all are welcome to visit from dawn to dusk.
