Description
Heading west from the capital city of Austin, the Texas Hill Country region stretches across the heart of the state. Once a seabed of limestone, the region buckled upward into today's Hill Country landscape, creating wave upon wave of rolling hills. Here, the heartland is made up of 19 counties, all contributing to the rich culture, heritage and scenic beauty of Texas.
Here in the beautiful Texas Hill Country rivers are fed by area springs as they flow through the hills. The Medina, Guadalupe, Blanco, and Nueces are fed by water that is filtered through pure limestone, flowing out in springs and running clear and cool. During the hot summer months you may be enticed to cool off in one of the many spring fed rivers. Pictured here is the Guadalupe River near Sisterdale, where huge bald cypress trees line the river banks. One of the more peaceful areas surrounding the river, you may spot people enjoying the day swimming, fishing, tubing and canoeing on the Guadalupe. Rising in the hills near Kerrville, the river meanders for 230 miles until it meets San Antonio Bay at Matagorda Island and the Gulf of Mexico.
