Description
Not to be confused with the Georgia park, but another massive granite dome is the main attraction at Stone Mountain State Park in North Carolina. Here park visitors enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, which include camping, hiking, fishing, picnicking, horseback riding, and of course, mountain climbing. The towering, 600-foot granite landmark just begs to be climbed. From the mountaintop, climbers may look down on Hutchinson Homestead, a restored mountain farm that lies at the base of the mountain.
The mid-19th century Hutchinson Homestead includes a log cabin, which showcases its original furnishings, a barn, blacksmith shop, corncrib, and meat house. It's about a half mile hike to the historic Hutchinson Homestead.
