Description
Hartford, located on the Connecticut River, was settled as a Dutch Trading Post in 1623. Shaped by its 17th century founders, the city is a pleasant mix of historic sites and modern metropolitan buildings. One of the most compelling buildings among the city's impressive skyline is One American Row. Requiring a second look, "the Boat Building" is home to Phoenix Mutual Life Insurance Company. Looking much like a modern 21st century design, the 13 story office complex was built as an elliptic lenticular cylinder, measuring only 87 feet at its deepest point and tapering to a fine edge at both ends. Built in the early 60s, the building holds the rare distinction of a Silver LEED Green Building award and was also listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.
