Description
Nothing like the policeman's code of silence, this natural feature, the Blue Wall, straddles the border between North and South Carolina. Here, where the Blue Ridge Mountains descend into the foothills, the Blue Ridge Escarpment drops 2000 feet in less than a half mile. Because of the rugged terrain this wilderness area remained undeveloped for years until the lumber companies moved in during the 50s. An effort lead by C. Thomas Wyche, the Naturaland Trust was established to preserve the Blue Wall, an area of over 90,000 acres. Thanks to many, the trust now protects two watershed areas and two wilderness preserves.
