Description
Designated a National Historic Landmark in 2006, the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Historic State Park preserves the home and farmstead where Marjorie had her greatest success as a writer. Inspired by the surroundings and people of Cross Creek, she wrote a string of short stories and novels. The Yearling (a Pulitzer Prize winner for fiction), Gal Young Un', and Cross Creek were the subjects of three motion pictures.
Arriving in north-central Florida in 1928, Marjorie and her husband Charles worked the farm for years, establishing a meager living during the Depression Era. After a divorce, Marjorie continued to live, on and off, at the farm until her death. Her second husband managed to save most of Marjorie's belongings and were returned to this site so that all may enjoy seeing the place were she lived and worked at Cross Creek.
