Description
Spread over 21,000 acres of land in the Delta of Mississippi and Louisiana, Smith Coffee Daniell II enjoyed tremendous success as a cotton planter in the Antebellum South. His only lasting legacy are these ghostly ruins of Windsor Mansion near Port Gibson, Mississippi. The mansion was one of the most lavish cotton planter's homes of the 19th century. Completed in 1861, Daniell's 23 room mansion was built in a basic Greek revival style, with other architectural elements borrowed from the Italianate and Gothic. Sadly, Daniell only lived in the mansion for a few weeks before he died at the age of 34. The mansion was destroyed by fire in 1890.
