Description
Nearly centered in the middle of the state, Pennsylvania's Columbia and Montour counties feature over two dozen covered bridges. The state goes to great lengths to preserve this large concentration of historic covered bridges. This scene captures the interior of the Kramer Covered Bridge during the autumn season when brightly colored foliage covers the hills and mountains.
Here, the Kramer Covered Bridge was built over Mud Run, a tributary of Green and Fishing Creeks. Located near Rohrsburg on Turkey Path Road, the historic covered bridge dates back to 1881 when C. W. Eves erected the wooden structure. Named for Alexander Kramer, a local farmer, initial bridge construction cost 414 dollars and 50 cents. Appearing in excellent condition, the bridge was totally rebuilt in 2007. The covered bridge is supported by a Queen Post Truss and totals 50 feet in length. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
