Description
A two lane blacktop road, called The Kanc by local residents, hits peak traffic during early October each year. Leaf peepers flood the White Mountains and especially Route 112, a highway christened the Kancamagus Scenic Byway.
Aside from sightseeing along The Kanc, Sabbaday Falls is one of the most popular waterfalls hikes on the byway. The falls and a picturesque stream, which passes through a narrow flume, are reached by an easy pathway and stairs. Another trail climbs to a grand viewpoint at the top of the falls.
Wondering about the name? Many years ago, workers in the area wrapped up their job site for the winter on a Saturday. On Sunday morning, workers made one last visit to the falls area and left it with the name Sabbath Day Falls.
